Milly Lane’s is hosting a charity cake sale today in the heart of the De Montfort University Campus Centre in aid of LOROS, RNIB and Asthma UK.

Leicestershire County Council have launched a new consultation for the public to have their say on preferred school term dates, it has received mixed replies from teachers and residents across Leicestershire.

‘FMT’ specialises in giving football betting advice will be setting up a new platform allowing him to give a helping hand to homeless people in Leicester.

The world renowned Philharmonia Orchestra gave a marvellous performance in Leicester’s De Montfort Hall last week, amazing all those who came to see.

12:32pm: Leicester baker aims to fix mental health issues one bread at a time!

Leicester baker, Michelle Stratford, this year started a unique baking initiative to improve mental health in the city, through bread baking.

Planet Leicester Bakers has started a new initiative under the name Leicester Bread Clubs to improve mental health in the city by teaching volunteers the art of bread making.

12.22pm: De Montfort University hope to give its students reusable cups

De Montfort University is giving students free, reusable cups this year to reduce the amount of plastics used on its campus.

DMU wish to distribute 25,000 cups to students and staff at the start of the next academic year.

Using them will result in a 20p reduction in hot drinks at all restaurants and coffee outlets on campus. Read more here.

DSU’s Disabled Representative Demi Rixon has launched a campaign to highlight invisible disabilities.

Yesterday, Demi was highlighting Chronic disabilities, and today is focusing on heart conditions.

Joao Madeira, a 17-year old first year Law student said: “Valentine’s Day is a bit too commercialised for my liking. It’s about the money rather than the affection & love shown to others.

“My worst Valentine’s Day date was the worst with my ex-girlfriend. We went for dinner in a very expensive restaurant and she started arguing with me. She stormed off and left me to pay the bill.”

11.03am: One person dies in seven-vehicle pile up

A person has died in a crash on the M6 this morning involving seven vehicles, which has caused long delays in Leicestershire.

The crash happened at about 2am this morning on the northbound carriageway of the M6 near Coventry, but delays backed up to Hinckley, where there was standstill traffic during rush hour, caused by the lane closures.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the crash at 1.47am. Two ambulances and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance Critical Care Car attended the scene.

Two other people were taken to hospital following the crash.

It was one of two on the northbound carriageway of the motorway within an hour of each other, but the second incident had less serious consequences.

If you’ve ever fancied getting married somewhere different, a museum in Leicester is offering you the chance to get married… next to Dinosaurs!

The Leicester New Walk museum’s Dinosaur and Fossil gallery is now able to be used as a wedding venue, with capacity of up to 80 guests. Read more here!


10.53am: Police continue fight against knives

Leicestershire Police made a great start to the #OpSceptre campaign yesterday as they bid to reduce knife crime in the county.

They made 11 knife-related arrests, recovered three knives and completed two stop & searches.

Officers are proactively carrying out sweeps at various locations in Leicestershire searching for hidden or discarded knives.

Today in Leicester we will have a dry start with some sunny spells but still rather cold with highs of 5 degrees. 


Cloud throughout the day will bring spells of rain throughout this afternoon. There will also be brisk winds so leave the umbrella at home and go with the trench coat.

Tonight, there will be more outbreaks of rain with winds easing.
