DMU today (Fri, Feb 9) welcomed new students at its Spring Welcome Fair, showcasing all of the societies available to them.
The event runs until 3pm and has seen hundreds of students signing up to new societies and groups available through De Montfort University.

Hazel Stronach, health and safety officer for DMU, said: “It’s a wonderful event because not only does it showcase the range of societies and groups available at DMU, but it also allows the new students to feel more welcome and become a part of things very quickly.
“When I joined DMU last year, I found it hard fitting in, but when I joined Acapella, I was really made to feel part of something. I believe making the students here feel a part of something bigger is really important.
“As a society, we’ve benefitted from this event by bringing in new members and really raising the interest for the society, which is great as we don’t have as many members as most other groups.”

The event has been designed to welcome the students joining the university in January, with all the societies running a stall to welcome the students and entice them to join the groups they are interested in.
