New Beyond Brexit website launches to mark 10 years anniversary

By Christopher Okoye

A new website called Beyond Brexit, is launching today(FridayJUNE5), marking ten years since the Brexit referendum and offering the public an opportunity to explore how life in Britain has changed over the past decade.

Created by a third-year Journalism student at De Montfort University in Leicester, the website aims to bring together different voices and experiences for reflection on one of the most significant political and social events in modern British history.

Rather than focusing on only politics, Beyond Brexit examines the wide impact Brexit has had on everyday life for people across the country. Through a number of news features and opinion pieces, the website shows how the different industries and individuals have experienced the changes brought about over the last ten years.

The website features four in-depth news features, each of them talking on the story of a person whose personal and professional life has been affected by Brexit. The contributors come from a variety of backgrounds and occupations, giving readers a diverse range of perspectives on how Britain has changed since leaving the European Union.

From the changes in employment to the effects on import and export and travel, the features show the different ways Brexit has shaped lives across the UK. Each story offers a personal insight into the challenges, opportunities and adjustments experienced over the last decade.

With these features, the website will also publish three opinion columns on the topic of Brexit. The columns are made to encourage discussion and showcase the variety of opinions that continue to surround Brexit ten years on. In all, the content aims to give a balanced platform where readers can engage with multiple perspectives, regardless of their own views on the issue.

The creator of Beyond Brexit, Christopher Okoye, said the project was inspired to look and
focus on the long-term effects of Brexit and the impacts it has had on the United Kingdom
politically, economically, and socially.

“Beyond Brexit is made to encourage reflection, discussion, and deeper understanding of how
life in the UK has changed over the last 10 years. Whether your views on Brexit are positive
or negative, its influence on British society can’t actually be ignored,” he said.

He added: “There are always strong opinions whenever Brexit is getting discussed, but this project is about listening to people, looking at the real statistics and understanding how their lives have changed. And just really how Britain has changed to be honest. The aim is not to tell readers what to think, but to give them the opportunity to hear a variety of voices and perspectives.”

Speaking about the launch, he said: “I hope readers come away with a wider understanding of the different experiences people have had.”

Beyond Brexit is available online, featuring exclusive stories, opinion pieces and discussions examining Britain ten years after Brexit.
