A statue of Suffragette Alice Hawkins due be unveiled in Leicester this weekend will address a burning inequality in the city, according to the deputy mayor.

Leicester chip shop blaze closes Welford Road

A deep-fat fryer caused an uncontrollable fire that resulted in the destruction of the Welford Chippy.

Emergency services arrived to the scene on Sunday (April 9) at around 4pm, and it took them around two hours to tackle the inferno.
