Students on #DMUglobal visit the New York Times Printing Plant

Seventeen students from Journalism, Media Studies and Film Studies recently visited the New York Times Printing Plant in Flushing in the borough of Queens as part of the #DMUglobal trip to the city.

The unique two-hour tour around the purpose built plant was arranged especially for the students, overseen by its staff.  The print operation is fully automated but around 400 people work overnight daily to get each edition printed.

Students had the opportunity to learn how the newspaper is transformed from digital into print and the logistical operation that gets the paper into the shops on time. Some students took the opportunity to do interviews for their dissertation research and pose questions to enhance the study of their Journalism modules.
