A lecture with a member of the House of Lords exploring how law actually matters is happening next week in Leicester.
Lord Alan Beith is presenting the Bishop’s University Lecture 2026 which will explore the place of law in public life, the tensions it now faces, and why it continues to matter.
The lecture will be held on Wednesday, 28 January, at St Andrew’s Church, in Jarrom Street, from 5.30pm to 8pm.
Lord Beith is a former Liberal Democrat MP and Deputy Leader of the party, as well as a long-serving Methodist lay preacher.
He has been a member of the House of Lords since 2015.
The event is open to all and will be followed by a question and answer session.
The lecture is funded by the legacy of the Very Reverend Derek Hole, a Church of England priest who spent most of his career ministering in Leicestershire, who passed away in 2021.
Free tickets for the event can be booked here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/bishops-university-lecture-2026-tickets-1953287588759?aff=oddtdtcreator. Ticket sales will close one hour before the event starts.
