New music collective Astro Flow is bringing a surge of fresh energy to Leicester with a cultural event this evening (Thursday, December 4) which they say could change student nightlife.
The launch event Frosty at 2Funky Music Cafe in New Park Street will be headlined by DJ Icy, a Paris-born, Toronto-raised talent known for his blended Caribbean and Tamil mix.

Astro Flow was founded by former University of Leicester student, Gowshi, who grew up in West London and is also the DJ and creative director.
She said the vision for it was born from a simple but powerful idea: music should be a connector, not a divider.
Gowshi said, while Leicester’s student population is diverse, its nightlife hasn’t always reflected that richness.
“It felt limited, repetitive and disconnected from the true cultural identity of the students it served,” she said.
“There was a clear lack of spaces where different cultures could coexist musically in an authentic way and that’s where the idea for ASTRO FLOW really took form.”
The aim is to redefine student nightlife as a space for cultural exchange, not just entertainment. Astro Flow wants to change that by creating vibrant spaces where genres like Desi, Afro, Bashment and Islands rhythm coexist and thrive.
Astro Flow’s aim is to reconnect diverse music with community but also to bring on rising artists across the globe.
