New video podcast platform Leics Talk has been launched by two friends with the aim of uplifting and promoting businesses and individuals in Leicester by showcasing them.
Pronounced Let’s Talk, the platform is a mix of a podcast’s casual conversations and a talk show’s curious nature, and was launched this month by host and founder Francesca Nethercot and host Joey Kearns.
The pair were born and raised in Leicester and their goal is to bring a positive light to their city and show that it outweighs the negatives often associated with the city.

It came about when Francesca noticed both her and Joey would receive messages on Instagram for advice and support in the music industry.
Cheska said: “We thought why don’t we consolidate it. At times you don’t know who is behind a business instagram page and may feel silly to reach out, and people feel comfortable to reach out to us.”
They felt the need to invite individuals to speak about their professions and offer advice to others who wish to pursue the same career.
Joey added: “We are trying to build a platform, to give a platform.”
The co-hosts met when Cheska ran Project live at 2funky complex.
Joey said: “I was a participant about three or four years ago, and we kept crossing paths at events and in the industry.”
Cheska added: “We have quite contrasting personalities, which is why I thought it would work really well. I am more spontaneous and Joey is more strategic.”
They had their first pilot session on January 7 with MXA, a music artist and ProdByParmz, a producer and mixing engineer who are both part of their media team.
“We are very much in the music scene,” Cheska said, “and it kind of consumes us at times.

“We are trying to branch out and build more connections with independent businesses, restaurants, coffee shops, and clothing stores. It’s all about going behind the scenes, talking to owners and the people creating it.”
Joey added: “It doesn’t matter if you have 100 followers or 10,000 followers, we want to give you a platform.”
The platform stresses the importance of human connections and conversations. Keeping the art of speaking with one another rather than always communicating by texts even when sat next to each other.
To those interested in being part of the music industry, Joey said: “Don’t rush into it and don’t come in trying to kick down doors when you are not ready.
“Building communities is key when trying to get anywhere in music.
“When networking, it’s best to be open, honest, and identity people who will benefit your career, but still speak to everyone in the room.”
