Blessing Annatoria Chitapa, known professionally as Annatoria, describes herself as a portion of what God has created in the whole earth, “but I like to say Annatoria is a blessing to her generation and family.”
Back in February, she won the Best Gospel Act award at the 2025 MOBO Awards at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle, but the talented gospel minister had already made headlines when she became the youngest winner of The Voice UK in 2020. Her journey from Zimbabwe to the international stage is a testament to her resilience, talent, and unwavering faith.

Singing started when she was a child in Zimbabwe, and it was embraced by the whole family. She was raised in a Christian home. Both her parents were pastors, and they was always singing before and after their preaching.
Her early musical influences included global gospel stars Tasha Cobbs Leonard, Kirk Franklin, and Sinach. Music was always playing in her home as her family worshipped and sang together without instruments. “It was a way of expressing our faith, our joy, and our struggles,” she said.
Her passion for singing eventually progressed when she moved to the UK at the age of seven, joining her Dudley church’s praise team, although she admitted she was always nervous to sing or lead the team due to her change of environment.
She recalls the first time she performed in front of an audience, a moment that activated her passion for singing. “I was about six years old, singing in church,” she shares. “The joy I felt was overwhelming. It was in that moment I knew music was my calling.”
Her upbringing, steeped in rich cultural traditions and spiritual values, played a significant role in shaping her identity as an artist.
Annatoria’s decision to apply for The Voice UK was driven by a desire to reach a wider audience with her gospel message. “I wanted to show the world that gospel music is powerful and transformative,” she explains. “I believed that this platform could help me share my faith and connect with people on a deeper level.”
Her determination paid off in 2020, as she captivated both the judges and the audience with her soulful performances to be crowned winner of The Voice UK. “When they announced my name, I was in shock,” she says. “I never expected to win, especially being the youngest contestant. It was a moment of pure joy and gratitude.”

This victory not only marked a significant milestone in her career but also served as an inspiration for many young artists aspiring to follow their dreams.
Even though she had the chance to make mainstream music, the kind of songs that usually get played on the radio and go viral on social media, Annatoria made a brave choice to focus on gospel music instead.
This was a risky decision because gospel music doesn’t always get as much attention as pop, rap, or R&B. Mainstream artists often get more streams, sell more records, and have bigger fan bases because their music appeals to a wider audience.
Gospel music, on the other hand, is more faith-based and usually reaches a smaller group of people who specifically connect with Christian messages.
But for Annatoria, it wasn’t just about fame or making hit songs, it was about following her purpose. She believed that her voice was a gift from God and that she was meant to use it to inspire people, spread positivity, and share her faith.
Even though choosing gospel meant she might not get as many views or go viral like some mainstream artists, she stayed true to what she believed in.
Instead of chasing trends, she focused on creating music that had real meaning and could touch people’s hearts.
She released her first gospel album, Count My Blessings, which mixed gospel, R&B, and modern Christian music. People really liked it because they connected with her message and saw that she was being true to herself and her faith.
Despite her success, Annatoria faced challenges, particularly when it came to her transition into gospel music. “Many people have tried and failed in this genre,” she acknowledges, “but my motivation comes from my faith and the belief that I have a unique message to share. I wanted to make a difference through my music.”
Her passion for gospel music is evident in her lyrics and performances, which resonate with audiences around the world.
Recently, Annatoria made headlines for her decision to pull out of the Maverick City Music Tour, an American Christian worship music collective. “It was a difficult choice, but I had to prioritise my mental health and well-being,” she explains.
Her collaborations with other artists have enriched her musical journey and fostered a sense of camaraderie within the gospel community.
In terms of her relationships with other gospel artists and ministers, Annatoria emphasises the importance of community and support. “We uplift each other,” she says. “It’s not a competition; it’s about spreading the message of love and hope together.”
Annatoria’s love life has also garnered attention, particularly her relationship with fellow minister Neeja.
A viral TikTok video showcasing their chemistry sparked conversations among fans. “We share a deep connection rooted in our faith,” she reveals. “It’s wonderful to have someone who understands the challenges of ministry and supports me in my journey.”
Throughout her career, Annatoria has faced numerous struggles, but her resilience shines through. “The biggest struggle for me has been overcoming self-doubt,” she admits. “There were times I questioned my abilities and whether I was on the right path.
“But I learned to trust in God’s plan for me.”
Annatoria’s journey as a gospel minister and the youngest winner of The Voice UK is a remarkable testament to her talent, faith, and resilience. She also pursued a BA in Music Business Management at the London College of Contemporary Music (LCCM) and recently graduated and was a valedictorian speaker.
Speaking about her struggles with juggling between university and travel, she says: “My education journey wasn’t the easiest and at many points I did feel like maybe having a degree wasn’t my calling.”
She describes the experience as the hardest thing she’s ever embarked on, and believes she is so blessed with God’s faithfulness.
Her commitment to sharing her message through music continues to inspire many, and her story serves as a reminder that with determination and belief, anything is possible. As she looks to the future, Annatoria remains dedicated to her craft, ready to touch hearts and change lives through her powerful voice.
