Foreign Leicester City fan declares confidence Van Nistelrooy can lead Foxes to safety

Leicester City have not quite hit the ground running upon their return to top-flight football, but a City supporter from Italy hopes the appointment of Ruud Van Nistelrooy can change that despite them sitting 19th in the table.

“I’ve been supporting Leicester for quite a while now,” said Dany Quaglia. “When I was in Italy, the fact that they won the league with Ranieri was quite a big thing. Everyone started looking at them from then and we still do.”

Dany, 21, graduated last summer from De Montfort University, and being in Leicester only grew his passion for the club further whilst completing his studies.

He said: “With the fact that I came here, I really started supporting them and followed them a lot for the last three years. So, I would say I’ve been following them for eight years since I was 14 but have been a supporter for three years.”

It is no secret that the season has not gone to plan so far for Leicester with the sacking of manager Steve Cooper, and his poor run of results leaving the team looking to escape a relegation battle.

“The season did not start well,” said Dany, who has stayed in the city after graduating. “It started with lots of losses and many players not playing at the level they should be. Now that the manager has changed plays a part. It has not been good but is improving.”

Ruud Van Nistelrooy was appointed manager on Friday, November 29, after the dismissal of Cooper.

“I think the appointment is amazing,” added Dany. “We’re speaking about a guy who has played at the highest level for club and country which is good for the players who want to reach that level. I’m confident in what he’s doing and from now on it’ll be a different season.

“For the remainder of the season, the aim should be to survive relegation as European football is not possible, and to go as far in the FA Cup as we can. It’s tough to win but they’ve done it before.”

The Foxes host QPR in the third round of the FA Cup this Saturday(JAN11), before then focusing on gaining valuable league points in their home match against Crystal Palace the following Wednesday.
