Leicester City Football Club fans celebrating their return to the Premier League felt proud of the way their team had performed this season.
Despite a 2-0 loss to Blackburn in their final fixture of the Championship season on Saturday(MAY4), Leicester celebrated their overall 1st place finish and return to the top flight with an open top parade through the city centre the day after.
This was followed by speeches from the club chairman and manager before the trophy was lifted in front of thousands of onlooking supporters.
The Foxes had won the Championship title the Monday before by beating Preston 3-0, ensuring their return to the Premier League within a year of being relegated.
Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha said: “This is amazing, we have been through a lot of pain the last year, I know how you feel.
“But today we celebrate being back in the Premier League where we belong.”
The parade began in Northampton Street, before travelling down through Leicester city past The Clock Tower.
Supporters were treated to many of the club’s anthems as they watched their team lift the Championship trophy in the city centre.
Long-time Leicester City fan Ellie Astill said: “I knew that being demoted back into the Championship was temporary.
“When that trophy was lifted at the end of the season, I felt proud of all the players and also of all the fans that stuck with them and kept the faith that the promotion would happen.”
While the fans were all jubilant, there is an air of uneasiness hanging over Leicester’s return to the Premier League.
This follows a breach of the financial rules that was reported earlier this year, with the punishment not yet decided.
Leicester City will kick off their Premier League campaign on August 17, but it has not yet been determined who they will face.
