Mithaas restaurant is aiming high in this year’s Leicester Curry Awards

The Mithaas restaurant and takeaway in Narborough Road is hoping it can claim the ultimate accolade by becoming Leicester’s best curry house in this year’s Leicester Curry Awards.

Nominations began on November 2 and closed last Friday, giving the public the opportunity to support their favourite restaurants and takeaways in the city before the winner is announced at a gala dinner on April 23, 2017.

Vishal Sonpal, owner of the Mithaas restaurant, said: “I think it’s a good opportunity for restaurants around Leicester to get recognised for what they’re doing, the service they’re providing and the recognition that would then help their business grow if they do win the awards.

“Our food is vegetarian so we are a bit different and it is also not your typical curry house food but more authentic home style cooking.

“All our regular customers who have been using us over the last ten years please help us to get acknowledged in the awards.”

The awards were launched back in November by city media business Pukaar News and the nominations for 2017 are being cast in their thousands with not much time left to vote.

The aim is to solidify Leicester’s growing reputation for multicultural heritage and delightful Eastern cuisine.

Vishal added: “To have an awards ceremony just for curry houses in Leicester shows there’s an enormous choice for customers and that’s due to the different cultures and backgrounds that come into this city.”
