DMU Journalism students go mobile for NCTJ shorthand

First year Single Honours journalism students are using a new app on their mobile devices to help them learn Teeline outlines and theory.

Shorthand lecturer Linda Clark has set up a comprehensive range of flashcards on the Quizlet website, which has apps available for Android and iPhone.

Linda said: “Students can now make use of those  five minutes while waiting for another lecture to start or sitting on the bus, to go through their outlines.

“With shorthand, the little and often way of learning can be very effective.  Quizlet also includes a number of games and activities with the flashcards which I hope the students will find fun to use.”

Linda has also re-introduced a shorthand quiz on A3 size posters on noticeQuiz-1-FinalPoster boards and doors around the Leicester Centre for Journalism.

“It’s another fun way for the students to engage with shorthand,” said Linda.

“And for the winner there’s a great prize featuring a lot of chocolate!”
