The series Scandal is an ominous series revealing secrets and love affairs in each season. Reviewer Remayah Tulloch-Hunter finds it captivating.
Occasionally, a character’s outfit can turn out terribly, but crisis manager Olivia Pope makes sure she is looking her best.
Scandal was released in 2012, set in Washington, and creator Shonda Rhimes didn’t realise how much of an impact the show would really have.
The series follows Pope, a former White House communications director who starts her own crisis management firm, and is based on real-life crisis manager Judy Smith. Sounds simple enough, but no, the series uncovers dramatic scandals, affairs and addictions.
The plot twists reveal the covert behaviours within the organisation B613, where dark interrogation occurs.
Scandal is just spectacular – Kerry Washington (who played Major Adams in The Six Triple Eight) makes Pope a character who stands out and knows her worth. Tony Goldwyn, who plays Fitzgerald Grant (the President), is jaw-dropping and attractive, while Darby Stanchfield, who plays Olivia’s work colleague Abby Whelan, is the type of character who will annoy you.
Guillermo Diaz, who plays Olivia’s work colleague Huck, is astonishing and shows true emotions. Bellamy Young, the President’s wife Mellie Grant, will get on your nerves and make you want to turn the show off.
When watching this compelling and mesmerising show, I fell in love with it not only for the first time two years ago, but after two years, I watched it for the second time.
Throughout the series, Olivia is a character who will protect everyone with whom she works and loves.
She caught my attention the first time she appeared in the series, and I became obsessed with her amazing presence.
Olivia’s outfits are distinguished and draw attention to herself.
I have to say the best outfit she has ever worn was the black and white Escada gown in season two.
That’s when it hit me that I would love her character from the beginning to the end of each season.
She has the most flabbergasting emotion and uses sharp one-liners to match the tone. “Speaking to me is a privilege; you do not have privileges.”
Her high-powered personality means that she knows what she wants and doesn’t let anyone get in her way in business. She excels in the show, not because of her facial expressions but because of her emotions and how she expresses them.
This series was remarkable and magnificent. The plot was gripping because the show reveals that the truth will always come out, no matter how hard you try to hide it.
Season five is my favourite series because secrets start to get revealed and more drama starts. The direction is heated, especially the scenes between Olivia and Fitz.
I’ll try not to spoil too much for you, but throughout the series, you will see the closure of two characters. Hint – keep an eye out for the powerful characters.
Then it dawned on me that Pope’s costumes are the main plot because each costume represented business, and that something is going to happen in each episode.
They are more important because these characters make the series so interesting to make you want to continue watching. It is so compelling because it combines powerful actors who bring the plot and storyline alive.
Scandal is a series that makes you question what having power and being in charge is about.
