What started as casual scrolling through social media quickly became the beginning of a business on the rise for a young video editor who discovered his passion while watching a screen.
Michael Katonia, 21, a second year advertising and marketing student at De Montfort University in Leicester, was inspired by the creativity he saw on platforms such as TikTok and YouTube.
“I used to watch edits on social media and found it interesting, so I wanted to learn,’’ he said.
As his skills developed, others noticed his talent.
He frequently received requests for edits, helping him realise his work had value.
“A lot of people started asking me for edits, and that’s when I decided to turn it into a business rather than a hobby,’’ he explained.

His first official client contacted him on TikTok after coming across his work.
“They thought my edits were sick and asked if I charged,” he said. “We started talking about the kind of edits they wanted, and it just went from there.
“3D edits and velocity are what I’m best at.”
The editor offers a range of services at accessible prices: personal edits for £5, group edits for up to £8, video edits for £7, and velocity edits for £2.
Despite his growing success, he admits the process can sometimes be a bit challenging
“Sometimes thinking about transition ideas is difficult,” he said. “You’ve got to make sure the first clip aligns with the following clip.”
Looking ahead, he hopes to increase building both his client base and creative range.
“In a year, I see myself having more clients, exploring different editing apps, and just expanding,” he said. “I want to keep having fun doing what I love.”
