A talk challenging long-held ideas about witchcraft as a female crime will take place in Leicester next week.
Presented by Seed Talks, the event will explore how accusations of witchcraft in early modern Europe were shaped by gender, power and social control.
Historian and archaeologist Dr Debora Moretti will examine real cases tried by the Roman Inquisition, highlighting the experiences of women and men accused of witchcraft.
Drawing on feminist scholarship, the talk questions whether persecution was solely about targeting women, or part of a broader system of fear and authority.
The 18+ History of Witchcraft and Women event takes place on Tuesday(FEB3) at The Sue Townsend Theatre, Upper Brown Street, Leicester.
