Winter blues hit Foxes as Leicester City’s troubles mount

Leicester City Football Club’s troubles appear to be mounting as they finally said farewell to manager Marti Cifuentes.

At the end of last season Leicester City were relegated back to the Championship, and just as notably lost their long-time skipper Jamie Vardy.

A screenshot of an email to LCFC stewards from management. It reads: Dear All, We are sorry to have to inform you that tomorrow evening stewards will not receive their usual food voucher for evening fixtures. This is something that we are looking into but have been informed that it was not factored into the calculation for food on tomorrow's fixture Vs Derby County.
Difficult times: An oversight meant that it looked like Leicester City stewards would go hungry.

Cifuentes was hired in July 2025 on a three-year contract in the hope the Foxes could be re-promoted to the Premiership.

However, just seven months in, he has seen his tenure fall short, getting sacked on Sunday following a series of disappointing results – not least, their loss to relegation-threatened side Oxford United the day before.

These aren’t the only worries that LCFC fans have been enduring, with rumours of financial difficulties within the club rife over the past month.

This began when staff were due to be paid their December salary early for Christmas. However, the night before payday they received an email stating they would have to wait until the end of the month.

Following this, stewards were emailed regarding their food entitlement for the December 29 home fixture against Derby. They were told they would not be catered for due to an oversight within the budget. This was later rectified, but not before it caused a buzz across social media.

Leicester City Football Club were contacted but did not respond to requests for comment regarding any of the matters within this article.
