Pokémon Society starts at University of Leicester

By Filip Nowicki

A University of Leicester student has received approval to start a provisional Pokémon society, pending approval in early February.

Biological Sciences (Biochemistry) student Timal Helitha Gunathilake, 19, said: “I knew I wasn’t the only person who loves this franchise, I’ve met so many people in my course alone that loves Pokémon or want to get into it.

“Therefore, you can imagine I was surprised to see there wasn’t a Pokémon Society at University of Leicester.”

After checking the university Students’ Union website, Mr Gunathilake could not find a Pokémon society to have ever existed so began considering the creation of one in early November.

The society was given provisional approval on January 12 with the society looking to become fully affiliated some time during February.

The society will be found on the University of Students’ Union website’s Societies page
