Residents in Leicester have shared their opinions about life in the city, praising its diversity and community spirit while raising concerns about rising living costs and the pressures that creates for people in the city.
Leicester is known for its cultural diversity, with festivals, independent businesses and community events playing a key role in bringing people together. Many say this remains one of the city’s greatest strengths.
Aisha Patel, 19, a student living in the city centre, said: “Leicester feels very welcoming. There’s a real mix of cultures, and that’s something you don’t get everywhere.”
However, some residents say everyday expenses are becoming harder to manage. Rising rent, transport costs and energy bills have added pressure on households.
Ian Porter, who has lived in Leicester for more than 15 years, said: “I love the city, but things are more expensive now. It feels like wages haven’t kept up with the cost of living.”
Leicester City Council has said it is continuing to support residents through local services and regeneration projects, despite financial challenges.
