A De Montfort University music society is set to hold a genre mash showcase called The Big Difference next week.
The showcase will be held at the Big Difference, at 68 High Street in Leicester, on Thursday, December 11, and will allow bands to show off their ability to be creative, incorporating genres of rock, metal and jazz.

Society chairperson Ben Leatherbarrow said: “The music scene in Leicester is not as well off as it used to be.”
They said the music scene was “under the weather,” adding: “Government and council cut local venues, but the music scene is getting there.
“The music society is a concentrated group of people that want to make live music and this society is a stepping stone for university students to do so.
“The society is a self-sustaining society and aims to reach DMU students.”
Ben added their ideas of success for the music society is to have a “steady flow of new people, getting anything out of the society and making their way into the music scene.”
Society treasurer Oz O’Connor, bandmate of Ben’s, said: “Music is significant for artistic expression because it is primitive, straight-forward and accessible.
“In terms of practising, it is a once-a-week thing, and you do it if your able.”

Oz added: “The music society means a lot to them as it is a great way of meeting good people through the society.
“There is a real sense of community because of the frequent faces and it’s nice to feel like you belong.”
Ben said: “I genuinely wouldn’t be here without it.
“It’s what’s made my university experience.”
