Promoted DMU basketball second team confident of successful season even after suffering first loss

By Jacob Williams

The DMU basketball second team is maintaining a positive outlook despite suffering their first loss of the season, following their promotion to a higher league.

With two weeks into the official season, the team has a 1-1 record, having lost 77-69 to Loughborough in a closely contested match on Wednesday, November 5, and before that winning 70-57 against University of Warwick.

Confident: Climar Forrester

Climar Forrester, the team’s guard and club vice chairman, is confident in the team’s capacity to compete at this higher level.

Varsity champion Forrester thinks the team’s energy and strong defence will be crucial to defeating more formidable opposition.

He said: “We have a strong defence that is difficult to get through, and we have good energy.

“A weakness, however, is that we need to adjust to the higher level of competition.”

As they take on more competitive opponents, the team’s defence, which has been a strong element early in the season, is anticipated to be a major advantage.

The defeat against Loughborough, however, brought to light a few areas that needed work, especially in adjusting to the new league’s quicker tempo and greater skill levels.

The team’s confidence is still high despite the setback, and Forrester is confident in their chances going forward.

“The season is only getting started. We’ll build on the qualities we’ve demonstrated and learn from our mistakes,” he stated.

“We intend on becoming stronger as a team and becoming more accustomed to each other’s playing style.”

The upcoming weeks will be critical in determining how effectively DMU can compete in Division Three, as the team concentrates on improving their game and adapting to the new competition.

As the team attempts to recover from their first loss and keep building on the momentum from their impressive opening victory, fans and supporters will be keeping a close eye on them.
