A charity shop in Leicester has pledged to sell every item of clothing for £1 to ease the financial pressures on the community.

The Salvation Army base in Narborough Road has posters across its windows to advertise the sale, inviting students, families, and anyone struggling with the rise in living costs to visit the shop.
The £1 clothing sale is a permanent fixture. Marcia Bodycot, manager of the Salvation Army Leicester Donation Centre, said: “As long as people are buying, it’s staying like that.”
The shop sells more than clothes, shoppers can find a selection of shoes, accessories, books, and furniture – essentials people will need as the weather gets colder.
Mrs Bodycot said: “The £1 sale aims to help people stay warm, safe, and comfortable without having to choose between heating and clothing.”
As the winter months draw in, the shop’s work extends beyond selling low-cost items.
Targeting to ensure everyone in the community has access to good quality, affordable clothing all year around, the shop begins with prioritising winter.
Coats and sleeping bags are being donated to people experiencing homelessness, and hundreds of free school uniforms have been provided to local families struggling to make ends meet.
Mrs Bodycot said: “The gratitude we received from parents and carers shows how much these initiatives matter.”
According to the Salvation Army, the shop’s mission is to support the community and promote sustainable living, aims which reflect the heart of the organisation and for which every pound counts.
Mrs Bodycot said: “It has helped students and young people trying to stretch their budgets, people starting new jobs, who found smart clothing cheaply, and individuals leaving hospital, who need warm clothing urgently.”
Donations are kindly accepted at the charity shop in Narborough Road.
