A series of weekly events are being held at De Montfort University to help the wellbeing of students and staff by providing therapeutic activities and a chance to socialise.
The Wellbeing Wednesdays events are held at The Pod in the Students’ Union Building in Mill Lane.

One of the organisers at this Wednesday’s event, who did not want to be named, said: “The average amount of students who attend are 15 students depending on the activities that take place every week.”
She added: “It is a chilled space that lasts for two hours and is a great way for individuals to have a space to socialise.
“During Black History Month there was a wellbeing session on arts and crafts last month. Also, for Disability Awareness Month there will be a sensory toolkit session next month.”
She said prioritising mental health is important to help with academic study, adding: “Life is busy and difficult to take proper time out.”
She described art as therapeutic, and the Wellbeing Wednesdays are used for artistic expression alongside a form of therapeutic outlet for students to occupy themselves and find comfort and confide in others if needed.
“How your wellbeing is,” she said, “it changes your perspective of life and how you experience life.

“Students need more connections and community to support them right now.”
