An elderly woman was left horrified after her purse was snatched right outside a busy chicken shop in Leicester city centre.
The elderly woman is thought to have been waiting for a taxi around 11.30pm in Granby Street on the recent Saturday evening when a man in his late 30s snatched the purse and ran off away from the city centre.
Witness Sibu Ndovu was inside the chicken shop and saw the crime unfold, alongside others who were unable to help the victim in time.
“I’d just ordered some loaded fries and was looking outside the window when a figure in dark clothing approached the woman with speed and took off with her purse before she could even react,” he said.
“She ran into the shop asking for phones to call her bank, she was in a clear state of shock.”
Mr Ndovu said many of the people in the area shouted after the thief took off but no-one was able to catch him. Her purse allegedly held £100 which she claimed was her last remaining money left and her bank card.
“It was a very emotional moment for everyone” he said. “She was clearly really hurt and distraught by the fact her personal belongings were taken, and she was left helpless.”
