A Leicester yoga teacher inspired in the 1990s by pop icon Madonna is encouraging people to try yoga to aid the stresses of daily life.

Gavin Carroll is running weekly yoga classes in Ratby, Kirby Muxloe, Hoby and Woodhouse Eaves.
Gavin said: “Life often feels like a non-stop race. In today’s fast paced world, our bodies are frequently stuck in a state of survival mode.”
Yoga is a holistic practice that combines physical postures with breath work, meditation and relaxation.
Gavin said: “It invites us to slow down, be present and tune into our needs in a world where we often prioritise others.”
Gavin began his yoga journey in the late 1990s after being inspired by Madonna and then went on to become a qualified yoga teacher in 2006.
He specialises in slow vinyasa and yin yoga. Slow vinyasa is a combination of linking movement (postures) and breath work together in a slow flowing state.
Yin yoga is a slow, quiet, floor based practice where people hold the poses for a longer amount of time, to allow for the release of tension and encourage the flow of energy and wellness within.
Gavin said: “Having nearly two decades of teaching experience, I prioritise staying up to date with my practice by undertaking regular training.”

Yoga has many benefits physically such as improving flexibility, balance and increasing strength.
Mentally it can also improve mental health, provide stress relief and improve self-esteem.
Gavin said: “Yoga has given me sanctuary, a space where I can truly connect with myself, free from the distractions and chaos of daily life.”
