One Nation charity will host event in Leicester to raise money for Syria

One Nation Leicester is hosting a women’s only charity dinner for Muslims in Leicester to raise money for Syria.

The event, set up by the relief charity, will be at 5pm on Saturday(JAN25) at the Evington Community Centre.

The money raised from ticket sales and auction items will go towards One Nation’s ‘Rebuild Syria Appeal.’

Umme Haarith, who is the fundraising lead for One Nation’s Leicester branch, said the event is also a chance to raise awareness amongst the Muslim community of Syria’s Islamic significance.

She said: “One of the speeches on the day will be focused on the Islamic aspect of Syria where we’re discussing the virtues and significance of the area, Islamically.

“There’ll be another speech in terms of what’s happened in the past, the history, what’s happening at the moment and what we can do to help. Where are we going from here, now,” she said.

Reports after the fall of the Assad regime revealed the trauma Syria’s female prisoners faced. Umme Haarith said this is why the event is aimed at women.

She said: “It’s become apparent and evident that there were a lot of female prisoners that were kept captive. One Nation are giving them support, psychological trauma support, helping rebuild their homes and more.”

The money is also used for food packages and medical care, according to the One Nation website.

The fundraising lead said that while the event is for charity, she also wants the women who attend to learn and have fun.

“We’ve got a dinner, a small auction, and we’re also doing a little bit of an interactive quiz,” she said.

Umme Haarith added: “This event is for females and girls 16 and above. So obviously that’s because it’s a bit more focused on education.

“We wanted it to be so that the women can enjoy themselves, learn, have plenty of time, not get distracted and take in what information we’ve got to give them,” she said.

If you are a Muslim woman who would like to attend this charity dinner, you can sign up here.
