New £10.5 million Day Case Unit planned for Hinckley Hospital

A new £10.5 million Day Case Unit at Hinckley and District Hospital is a step closer to reality, with a planning application for the modular building set to be submitted early this year.

Services will cover a wide range of clinical specialties, including breast care, ophthalmology, and orthopaedic surgery.

The project’s second phase will deliver a modern facility linked to the new Community Diagnostic Centre on Mount Road.

Early works, such as asbestos removal, are scheduled for completion by March this year. A planning application for the building has already been submitted to Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council.

“This is fantastic news for Hinckley,” said Sarah Prema, Chief Strategy Officer at Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland’s Integrated Care Board.

“The funding extension into 2026 will enable a modern, fit-for-purpose Day Case Unit, bringing care closer to home.”

NHS Property Services approved the business case in March last year, and planning efforts will continue in collaboration with Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council. Bill Cullen, the council’s Chief Executive, praised the partnership to invest in local healthcare.
