Visit Leicester is bringing back its annual Christmas events in various locations spread across the city.
This year, the tourist information and events team have brought back a range of events, including an ice rink, the Christmas lights switch on and Enlightened Leicester, a magical outdoor light trail.
The Leicester Christmas market has also made a return this year after taking a hiatus.
Ross Tarbard, communications and marketing officer for the city council, said: “The Christmas market is run by a private company, but they [the City Council] have listened to people within the city to see what people are after.
“There are things that happen year on year, it’s a case of trying to keep things fresh but also look at what has been successful in previous years.”
The Christmas events in the city haven’t always been the same. Over the years, they have changed dates, location and been improved in an attempt to draw more people into the city.
“It’s evolving to meet what people are looking for,” Ross said. “Our aim is really to join the events up so people see that this is just one Christmas experience in Leicester.
“It just gives Leicester a more rounded experience to coming into the city at this time of year. The more we can offer to people, the better, because that just creates a nice experience which makes them more likely to come back again.”
In the coming years, it is hoped that Visit Leicester will be able to use space within the city and look at how to bring new exciting events into the city.
The Christmas events can be found at the Clock Tower, Gallowtree Gate, Jubilee Square and Abbey Park.
Other venues in the city will be hosting a free Santa’s grotto at Highcross Leicester, Carols by Candlelight at the Cathedral and a Carol service.
More details of the events taking place in the city can be found on Visit Leicester.
