The manager of De Montfort University men’s second team believes hard work behind the scenes on unity and cohesion is beginning to pay off on the football pitch.
Jack Staples’ team put in a promising performance on Wednesday(NOV13) despite falling short in their BUCS match against University of Nottingham in a 3-2 loss at Beaumont Park, the home of DMU football.

Jack said: “Today’s game was the most positive game that we’ve had. This was the first game we’ve scored all season and this was the first time I’ve looked at the boys and seen that they really want it, which is fantastic.”
In Wednesday’s match, DMU managed to equalise twice with two sublime finishes in the first half to then go behind on the brink of halftime.
Jack talked about the challenges he had faced and how he went about creating an environment that encourages cohesiveness between the players.
“Team culture was slow at first but I’ve worked to make sure everyone is on the same wavelength and know that they can message me for any issues,” he said.
There was further strong evidence of support from students of DMU who had made the journey to watch and cheer on the team, providing more cohesiveness and unity for the boys who have struggled for much of the season so far.
Jack is hoping the team will look to build on the promising performance when they face Derby in an away fixture on Wednesday, November 27, as the team continue to search for the first points from four matches in what has turned out to be a disappointing season so far.
