After years of anticipation and setbacks, one of the twin of buildings constructed along Leicester’s Golden Mile is finally complete and ready to welcome new tenants.
The development, which has been under construction for more than a decade, has been a source of frustration for local residents and business owners, but now, the recently finished building is set to bring a fresh boost to the area.
The building, owned by Leicester-based family firm PiPi Print & Packaging, features a ground-floor retail unit and several residential flats above.
The newly completed structure stands at the prominent corner of Belgrave Road and Cooper Street, a key location within Leicester’s iconic Golden Mile.
“This area has so much potential, but that building was dragging it down,” said Rakesh Patel, a local shop owner.
“It’s disheartening to see visitors come here and get a poor impression because of one building, so it’s a relief to see progress.”
A company spokesperson explained that the building’s completion marks an important step forward for its long-term vision for the Golden Mile.
“We’re thrilled to finally offer this space to new tenants after overcoming numerous delays and challenges,” the spokesperson said.
“Our goal has always been to create a vibrant space that brings value to the community, and we’re excited for the positive impact this completed section will have on the area.”
While one building is now complete, the second structure remains unfinished, still clad in scaffolding and awaiting further development.
The company acknowledged the community’s concerns regarding the appearance of the incomplete building and reiterated its commitment to finishing the project in the coming years.
“We understand why residents are concerned about the delays and the look of the site,” the spokesperson added.
“This is a family project that means a lot to us, and we’re doing everything we can to move forward with the second building as soon as possible.”
Despite this progress, some residents remain sceptical.
“We don’t want excuses. We want action,” said Nisha Sharma, a nearby resident.
“If they’re serious about completing the entire development, they need to show us more progress soon.”
For now, the completed building offers a glimmer of hope for the area. With commercial space available for new businesses and flats ready for residents, the new addition is expected to breathe life into the Golden Mile.
