A Leicester artist is creating an animated film to aid people affected by hoarding disorder.
Steff Lee, inspired by realising 20 years ago that someone she knew was hoarding, is producing Of All The Things.
“I didn’t know it was a problem until I moved back from university,” she said. “They were really struggling.
“I wanted to help but, without advice, I might have made things worse.”
Lee, from Kino Bino studio, hopes the film will reduce stigma and show better ways to help.
“Hoarding is a slow burner,” she added. “It starts with not letting people into your house out of shame. Speaking out can help others.”
Jo Cooke from Hoarding Disorders UK praised the film’s sensitive approach, stating: “Hoarding is a complex mental health disorder linked with trauma and bereavement.”
The project, supported by the BFI, the British Psychological Society, Age UK, and Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, has launched a crowdfunding campaign.
