Residents encouraged to ‘Walk this May’ for mental wellbeing

By Christopher Okoye

Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council has been urging residents to engage in walking as part of the nationwide initiative ‘Walk This May.’

Led by council-appointed guides, the initiative emphasises the advantages of walking and socialising with others.

Residents can participate in various guided walks offered by the council at no cost, promoting community interaction and physical activity.

Walking provides a simple, free way to maintain a healthy lifestyle. During Mental Health Awareness Week, there were two walks at Burbage Common on May 16, starting an hour apart and each lasting 90 minutes at a moderate pace.

Mark Bools, the Executive Member for Leisure at Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, said: “I would urge all those capable to join National Walking Month by venturing outdoors and exploring the extensive array of scenic nature trails in the vicinity.

“Expand your social circle, and simply increase your activity level to reap the rewards that walking offers.”
