KISS FM radio presenter Sam Darlaston hosted a masterclass on podcasting and presenting to De Montfort University students last week(THU,MAY2).
The students had the opportunity to present and produce their own podcasts.

During the live Q&A, Sam gave tips on making it onto mainstream radio stations.
He said: “If you wanted to apply for KISS FM, send a demo 20-30 seconds in length, make it about music, and aim for quite a younger demographic.”

Sam graduated with a First Class Honours in Media Performance from the University of Bedfordshire.
He rose to prominence in 2015 after triumphing in the nationwide presenter search KISS FM’S ‘Chosen One’.
After being featured in many radio ads for Hollyoaks, Sam Joined Channel 4 and became a regular continuity announcer for E4, and has since gone to announce on Channel 4 too.
He’s also represented KISS on the red carpet at an array of film premieres – some of which include Batman vs Superman, Fast and Furious and Captain America.
Sam has DJ’d across the UK, spanning festivals, universities, nightclubs, private events and football stadiums.
He partnered with fashion store TOPMAN in a fashion/music-based collaboration, where he became their in-house DJ for private shopping.
Sam was named as one of the ‘30 Under 30’ ones to watch by The Radio Academy.
Catch Sam on KISS, every weekend from 8am, with the HOTTEST tunes to start your weekend.

Chloe Streeter, a business and marketing student, found the event really insightful.
She said: “It was amazing. I’ve learnt a lot of knowledge that I didn’t know before. It was nice to network with people and meet Sam. It was helpful and has broadened my knowledge on podcasting and radio.”

Simon Baines, DMU Entrepreneurship manager, pulled this event together to help students as part of the DMU Made Creative Industries Programme.
The programme is designed to educate DMU students and recent graduates on the benefits of self-employment, freelancing and entrepreneurial skills.
