Breckland Council, in Norfolk, is to ask for the government to continue its Household Support Fund into the next financial year.
The motion, proposed by councillor Harry Clarke of the Dereham ward, argues that people in the Breckland district are still feeling the pressure of high inflation and record energy costs.
in a report put to a meeting today (THURSFEB22) to set its annual budget, the motion stated that there are “significant pockets of deprivation in both the more urban areas as well as our rural villages.”
The government fund is given to help councils across the country support the most vulnerable households in their communities.
Since October 2021, the government has given £2.5 billion to the project, with the end date for it being 31st March 2024.
The council has said it will write to the Chancellor of the Exchequer for the continuation of the fund in the Spring Budget.
