Several teams at De Montfort University are partnering up to create the second Winter Wonderland event which will be happening on campus early next month.

De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU) and the DMU Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Team will be hosting their second Winter Wonderland at the Campus Centre Building on Thursday, December 7, from 11am to 3pm.

In the past, DSU hosted a Christmas Market with commercial stall holders but didn’t have as much student engagement as they would have liked.

This year, DSU wanted to create an experience-based event for students to relax and enjoy themselves at in this busy time of year. The DSU’s aim is to help and lift the students’ moods.

Dominic O’Connor is a Design and Communications Coordinator at the DSU.

He said: “It’s a good event to attend, students have a lot going on with their lives and on campus, this event would uplift their spirits and let them engage with each other.”

With the aim of boosting engagement with students, Dominic and the DSU Marketing and Communications team came up with the idea of the Winter Wonderland last year by re-envisioning the Christmas market into a full-scale experience-based event for all DMU students, with the help of DMU’s Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Team, Simon Baines and Tammy Meahan.

This year it will include:

  • Live music from the DMU music society, with four artists confirmed so far, playing Christmas festive songs outside the venue
  • Student stall holders and makers
  • A fully festive decorated venue with feature spots such as a large Christmas tree
  • Upstairs there will be Christmas movies played with Christmas games
  • A wellbeing event – decorating bubbles
  • A Christmas festive live tunnel decorated with lights and Christmas decorations
  • Clothing stalls
  • Food and drinks
  • Hopefully an attraction outside the venue as well.

The main focus of this event is to offer students the opportunity to build their enterprising and employability skills whilst offering a great experience for those wishing to attend.

The DMU Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Team will host the students’ stalls, so that the students can sell their own Christmas themed products.

The DSU with the DMU Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Team are planning to make their Winter Wonderland bigger and better every year.

Anyone is welcome to attend, and this is an opportunity for students to sell their products.
