Students on De Montfort University’s Arts and Entertainment Journalism module pick the films, plays, music, TV shows and books that shaped them
Favourite film
There are too many to choose from, but there’s one film I have to watch every year and that’s Elf. Yes, it may be a Christmas film, but seeing Will Ferrell dressed in a bright green elf costume never fails to make me smile!
Last time I went to the theatre
Last year I went to the Ambassadors theatre in London to see the play Cock. Despite what the name may suggest it wasn’t rude and vulgar, I promise! I must admit I originally brought tickets for this just because Taron Egerton was playing one of the main roles and I was slightly obsessed with him at the time. He ended up having to pull out of the play a few weeks in and I missed my chance of seeing him, but the play was still really good and had me laughing from start to finish.
TV show I’m currently binging
I’m currently watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine. I wanted something easy to follow and ended up getting addicted. It’s fun to watch and doesn’t require too much attention which is perfect for when I’m trying to switch off.
First song I adored
My favourite song has to be Toploader’s cover of Dancing in the Moonlight, there is just something about that song that I love and it always makes me want to dance. My mum always used to listen to a lot of Phil Collins when I was growing up and I was always singing along to his album in the car.
First gig I went to
The first gig I went to was to see The Sugababes in a park in Shrewsbury. I don’t really remember much about it as I was really young, but I used to listen to them all the time.
Last book I couldn’t put down
This is really hard to answer because I can never put any book down once I get into it! I read Everything I Know about Love by Dolly Alderton a few months ago and I liked how honest and open it was. I know I’m extremely late to the party with that one, but my never ending to be read pile makes it hard to pick which book to read next.
