Leicester Ugandan Asian exhibition wins national award

By Michal Okonski

The Ugandan Asian ‘Rebuilding Lives’ Exhibition at Leicester Museum has been named as joint best ‘Temporary or Touring Exhibition’.

The award was given by the ‘Museum and Heritage Awards’, known as the ‘Oscars’ of museums on May 10.

Visited by over 160,000 people, the exhibition showcased the 50 years since the arrival of Ugandan Asians in Leicester and how their culture shaped Leicester.

Local arts organisation Navrang ran the event, which was the first South Asian exhibition to be shortlisted for the awards.

The company was awarded £100,000.

Whilst this exhibition has now ended, more art and events can be found at the museum here: https://www.leicestermuseums.org/whats-on/.
