Leicester’s Market redevelopment is due to start soon after announcing the changes in September.
The planned £7.5m improvement allows for 70 new stalls with better displays, smart new paving and better pedestrian routes.
Leicester has had a charter to hold a market for 700 years and was last renovated in 2017 with the introduction of a Food Hall.
The council also hopes that the market will be more sustainable with green roofs and solar panels.
Current market stalls will be moved to Green Dragon Square, behind the Corn Exchange.
Work is planned to begin soon and should take 15 months to complete.
