During the meeting of Leicester City Council yesterday (MAR 19), news of coronavirus took over much of the proceedings, as Leicester implements strategies to deal with the pandemic, which has now reached the UK.
Sir Peter Soulsby, Leicester city mayor, outlined the strategies during the meeting in the Town Hall, which was attended by just under half the the council.
In his opening remarks to the council, Sir Peter said “the council will be severely tested, there are going to be some very difficult times ahead.”
The most notable of the special measures to help the general public practise social distancing and avoid the spread of Coronavirus is that as well as evictions for not paying rent to council properties being stopped, council tax arrears will not be pursued for the general public in Leicester, as jobs are very uncertain during this time.
