City Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby has praised the media in Leicester for providing ‘trusted, reliable and up-to-date health information’ amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“I’d like to pay tribute to our local news and media, in particular, BBC Radio Leicester and the Leicester Mercury, who are proving to be an invaluable counterbalance to the misleading, irresponsible and occasionally even downright false stories appearing on social media,” he said at yesterday’s City Council meeting.
Second year Journalism students at De Montfort University are taking part in a ‘News Day’ event this afternoon, where the city’s media coverage of the coronavirus pandemic is expected to continue.
