By Beatriz Abreu Ferreira

Leicester city mayor Sir Peter Soulsby attended the City Council meeting yesterday(MARCH19) to address the coronavirus pandemic and the council’s plan to help the people of Leicester.

The Lord Mayor confirmed there are five cases of Corona virus in the city and urged people to adopt hygiene precautions and implement social distance.

Sir Peter said: “Our duty is now clear, a duty to protect loved ones, neighbours, friends, key workers and our fellow citizens.

“I cannot pretend we have all the answers, but I can assure you we are asking the right questions.

“We ask everyone in Leicester to offer help to neighbours and friends. We might have to stop seeing each other, but we must not stop talking to each other.”

He pledged there will be no pursuit of council tax arrears or any evictions due to lack of income  during this ‘unprecedented pandemic’.

“I hope those here, those not with us, and the people of Leicester will be assured the city will be supported by its council in this very difficult crisis,” he added.
