Shama Women’s Centre has invited Camilla, The Duchess of Cornwall, to join it as it celebrates 35 years of supporting Leicestershire women.

During a royal visit last week, Khudeja Amer-Sharif, CEO of the charity, extended an invitation to their 35th-anniversary celebrations to the Duchess.

“We are hoping she will take up that opportunity,” said Khudeja.

Established in 1985, the centre aims to empower local women from different backgrounds to become socially, educationally and economically active.

Camilla spoke to Shama members for several minutes and commented on the “fantastic job” which the charity does for the local community.

The centre is proud to have helped more than 50,000 women across Leicester overcome barriers in the past three and a half decades.

Camilla was joined by her husband, Prince Charles, as they made a visit to Leicester Market as part of a whistle-stop tour of the region on Tuesday, February 11.
