De Montfort University (DMU) has joined eight other East Midlands universities by signing up to the Armed Forces Covenant.
The written agreement, which is part of the Armed Forces Act 2011, has several benefits and universities who sign up encourage their students to join the military reserves, with businesses also eligible to sign.
Other benefits include collaborative research among universities, for the benefit of the military, and work placement opportunities for students.
Dr Simon Oldroyd, interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor for DMU, said: “By signing this updated covenant, DMU is showing its commitment to support military personnel and their families.
