DMUFC Weekly Blog: November Week two

Welcome back to the second edition of the weekly DMUFC Blog.

By Luke Williamson.

Three of the four DMU mens teams were in action this week, all at home, with two teams emerging victorious.

The first team were triumphant over Oxford Brookes First Team, coming out 4-0 winners after a very dominant performance from first whistle to last.

The second team’s fixture on Monday night saw the game finish 1-1 after normal time with Anglia Ruskin Firsts, thanks to Chris Farrar’s equaliser before Ben McConnell popped up with the winner in extra time to see the DMU second team progress to the next round of the cup.

The Fourth Team was also in cup competition, facing Coventry Fourths at Beaumont Park, also on Monday night.

Coventry took the lead in the second half but, just moments after the restart, DMU burst forward with a chipped ball over the top which was dinked home to take the game to extra time.

As neither side could find a winner, the game headed to penalties in which the visitors came out on top, converting all three spot kicks with their goalkeeper pulling off three great saves to win the shoot-out 1-3.

Both the seconds and the fourths battled brilliantly through the 120 minutes and should be proud of the efforts they put in, regardless of which side of the result they were on.

Some of you may have seen Monday’s huge announcement already, but for those that have missed it, DMUFC and DMURFC are going head to head in a charity darts night on Saturday, November 23.

It’s nine versus nine, with all proceeds going towards the two teams’ Movember totals, in which both teams are also going head to head to see who can raise the most money.

From a DMUFC point of view, the club has raised more than £1,500 so far and is looking to raise so much more for the fantastic cause.

Well done boys on what you have raised so far, it’s a fantastic effort but let’s keep pushing for donations to try to reach our next target in the second half of the month.

Tomorrow (WEDNOV13) night sees the return of the Charity Shop Social, where the attire for this week is clothes bought at a charity shop.

There is a limit of £5 to buy a t-shirt and trousers but shoes don’t count towards the total, and make sure to bring your receipt to prove how much you spent.

There will be prizes for the best dressed and the worst dressed will be punished, so let’s see some crazy outfits on show this week.

We meet at Locker Room at 7.45pm so don’t be late.

This week’s fixtures see the First Team travel south to take on Oxford Brookes First Team again, while the Third team travel to Birmingham City Firsts, and the Second Team are at home to Nottingham Trent Fourth Team, all of which take place tomorrow.

Make sure to keep an eye on @DeMontfortFC on Twitter to stay up to date with the goings on in the club.
