The DMU Falcons are currently on track to have their best ever season, and no-one outside of their Leicester fan base has a clue.
De Montfort University’s American football team will be looking to book their first ever playoff appearance in the universities competition, at the expense of the Staffordshire Stallions this Sunday.
They are one of two form teams in the division with 4 straight wins, and yet they remain unranked, and woefully underreported.
For a squad that has never experienced championship success, the lack of fanfare surrounding their biggest fixture of the season is surprising.
With the championship-deciding game this Sunday at Beaumont Park, the players are determined to prove doubters wrong.
Quarterback Tyler Arthur was unfazed, and ready to surprise sceptics this Sunday.
He said: “Having a few negative articles now pushes us and motivates us more. They have started to notice us, and will have to accept that we’re worth covering fairly now.”
A win this weekend seals promotion, completing the evolution of the perpetual underachievers into championship challengers.
This improvement is even more impressive considering the Falcons didn’t have their home ground ready until their fifth game of the season, being a ‘road team’ that picked up 3 wins on their travels.
