The Cookie has launched its first ‘pie-eating contest’ in aid of the Matt Hampson Foundation, which will take place next Wednesday (Nov 7).
Entry into the competition is £5 and all proceeds will go to help this worthwhile cause with all they do.
General Manager Tommy Turner, 26, said: “A pie eating contest seemed like a great idea for us as we sell a wide variety of pies at The Cookie, including our classic ‘steak & ale’ pie.
“The steak & ale pie will be the primary pie of choice in the contest.”
Mr Turner also told the Leicestershire Press: “We’re also getting a few of the players from the Leicester Tigers to come down and compete in the contest too!
“There are going to be about four rounds, for example: an endurance round which will be how many pies you can eat inside a time limit.
“Another round we may do is a ‘beat the rugby player’ round where you take on one or more of the Tigers players head to head.”
The proceeds raised by the event will be going to the Matt Hampson Foundation, which aims to inspire and support young people seriously injured through sport.
The Cookie is looking to make the contest a regular occurrence, with Mr Turner hoping this will be the first of many.
“This is only our first attempt at one, but if it goes really well and proves a success we could look to do a lot more in the future.”
Mainly a music venue, The Cookie has recently been looking to broaden its appeal hosting club nights with specific student deals.
“We have started club nights every Thursday which we have called Output,” said Mr Turner.
“There are a lot of deals on the club nights for students in particular, for example spirit and mixer is £3.”
