Leicester City footballer Harry Maguire has received more than 14,000 signatures to be the face of the new £50 note.
The central defender, affectionately known as ‘Slabhead’, shot straight into the hearts of England football fans during the 2018 World Cup.
Maguire has been backed by fellow England defender Kyle Walker after the suggestion was made by a Twitter user.
Sir David Attenborough, another Leicester-born celebrity, is currently the front-runner to be the face of the new note, although the Bank of England tends not to back “people who are living or fictional characters” to be the face of the notes.
