New animals arrive at the Woodside Animal Centre in Leicester every week in need of new homes and a plea has been issued for people to step forward to care for them.

Shelters become overcrowded from seasonal periods where animals are left behind. This February, the Centre is looking to re-home some of these four-legged companions.

The non-selective animal centre, an independent Branch of the RSPCA, based in Leicester, wish to find dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and birds homes that are suitable to their individual needs.

Woodside Animal Centre is a self-funding organisation, the help of the community is paramount in making sure these animals are well looked after.

Animal shelters across the UK often experience peak seasons, varying from December to January, where there is an increase in the number of animals being brought in from unwanted homes or from outside.

Hunter the Greyhound (pictured), is one of the many animals in the centre, who is currently looking for a permanent home. For regular updates on which animals need homes, the Centre makes regular Facebook Posts on their page, woodsideanimalcentre.

In helping to fund and provide the animals with everything they need, the Woodside Animal Centre will be hosting a fundraising Leicester Dog Show, one of the many scheduled events set throughout 2018.

The event will be on Saturday, March 17, from 9.30 am to 4pm at Leicester Racecourse. All dogs are welcome to enter, and guests can look forward to dog classes, a police dog demonstration and doggy pampering which are just a few things on the days itinerary.

People can help support the animals, by going to these events if re-homing or fostering an animal is not an option.

The Woodside Animal Centre welcomes those interested in volunteering, those interested can contact volunteer coordinator on 0116 224 2437.
