Aerosol truck fire shuts M1

By Harry Rogers

The M1 was closed between Junction 20, Leicester, and Junction 21, Lutterworth, on Tuesday when a lorry carrying aerosols caught fire.

The section of road was shut off immediately while emergency services battled the blaze, which engulfed two lanes of the motorway.

The fire was extinguished, but the section of road remained shut for more than five hours while the road was cleared.

It eventually re-opened just before 6pm, only to be shut again at 9pm so repairs could be made to the road surface.

The motorway was opened again just after 4am, more than 14 hours after the the incident was first reported.
