Leics CCC deny contact with shamed cricketer Mustafa Bashir

Leicestershire County Cricket Club have released a statement refuting the claims in national press that they approached disgraced Pakistani cricketer Mustafa Bashir.

Mr Bashir appeared in court accused of beating his wife with a bat, forcing her to drink bleach and calling her friends “English slag girls.”

National press reported that LCCC would offer the cricketer a contract after his defence lawyer made the claim in court.

However, LCCC have since released a statement saying they are ‘bemused’ by the news and have denied having links with him.

Leicestershire County Cricket Club are aware of stories that have been published this morning regarding Mustafa Bashir.

The club are bemused by these stories. Any references to Mustafa Bashir signing or being approached to sign for Leicestershire County Cricket Club are completely false. The club have never spoken to Mustafa Bashir or an agent, nor offered a contract to the player.

Many people are outraged by the news, which was first reported by the Daily Mail, with one person on twitter saying: “Leicester should get a back bone and have nothing to do with men who abuse women.”
